In this study, 80 women aged 50 to 68, with excess pounds, exercised on a vibrating machine or performed regular resistance exercises. Their body mass index and waist-to-hip ratio was measured after 8 months and so was fat oxidation. WBV was found to maximize fat reduction and increase calorie consumption.
Scientists from the University of Antwerp obtained similar results, a study published in the journal of Obesity Facts in 2010 showing that combining either aerobic or whole body vibration training with calorie restriction can help obese people lose 5-10% of their body weight, and significantly reduce their fat mass, after 6-12 months of training.

For this study, participants performed 10-22 exercises at frequencies varying from 30 Hz to 40 Hz, each exercise lasting for 30-60 seconds. Subjects performed both static and dynamic exercises on the vibrating machine, no side effects being experienced.
